Overview.

Luxli Timpani is a compact LED unit for creative lighting, manufactured in Norway. With RGBAW panels, wireless Composer app control, and various effects, it delivers a captivating lighting experience.

  • Redesign a user-friendly Luxli Timpani detail page for Gradus Group that seamlessly integrates essential elements, inspired by their admired websites.

  • I drew inspiration from successful manufacturer sites, using essential UX design principles, and organized sections with engaging media to ensure a comprehensive and appealing presentation of information.

  • As the sole UX designer, I researched competitors, analyzed design principles, ideated, wireframed, prototyped, and implemented a visually cohesive web design.

5-Day Design Sprint Timeline.

To meet the challenge within a constrained timeline, I dedicated myself to a 5-day design sprint for Gradus Group, following these steps each day:

  • Conduct competitor and manufacturer site research, identifying design patterns and appealing elements. Create a mood board and define design principles.

  • Map out the user journey and sketch initial ideas for the Luxli Timpani detail page. Develop wireframes for each section and storyboard media gallery/videos.

  • Translate wireframes into digital format and build interactive prototypes.

  • Establish a style guide and apply visual design to digital prototypes. Review and refine the design against principles for consistency and alignment.

  • Finalize a case study summarizing the design process, inspirations, wireframes, prototypes, and visual design. Submit to Gradus Group.

Ideation & Wireframing.

On Day 2, I defined user flow, sketched initial ideas, and wireframed essential sections for the Luxli Timpani detail page.

  • Mapped Luxli Timpani detail page journey, identifying key touchpoints: Overview, Features, Specs, In the Box, Reviews, Gallery, FAQs, and Support.

  • Created rough sketches of essential page sections.

  • Developed wireframes for each section based on the sketches.

  • Planned media gallery/image/video arrangement and transitions for the next phase.

Day 3

Day 3

Prototyping.

On day 3, I converted low-fidelity designs into high-fidelity digital wireframes, ensuring uniformity in layout and spacing. Working independently posed challenges, requiring me to trust my judgment at every step without team input. I addressed this by refining designs through self-review, ensuring alignment with the previously outlined key UX design principles (visual emphasis, user-centric navigation, efficient information absorption, and seamless media integration).

Day 4

Day 4

Style Guide Development.

On day 4, I refined the style guide for the one-pager, detailing color, typography, and minimal visuals. This marked the start of finalizing the interactive prototyping step. The style guide featured vibrant red and blue hues for dynamism, complemented by gray tones for a minimalist backdrop. Blue hues maintained brand identity, while the Roboto font combined mechanical structure and geometric shapes with friendly curves for a natural appearance.

Day 5.

Day 5.

Final Prototype Design.

On the final day, I developed the requested straightforward website redesign inspired by admired sites by Gradus Group, incorporating established key UX design principles. I organized sections thoughtfully and integrated them seamlessly with subtle yet pleasing prototype animations. The design prioritized large images for Luxli Timpani's features, ensuring intuitive navigation, concise product communication, and seamless media integration.

Reflections.

Exploring the world of lighting panel products was enriching; it led me to intensify research efforts to better understand the brand, aligning it with established design principles. Despite facing challenges alone, I anchored myself in these principles.

As a designer, I found fulfillment in presenting two design directions within a tight timeline. This approach provided Gradus Group with flexible branding options, allowing them to choose their preferred style while highlighting the product's creativity and lighting capabilities.

"In design, every detail matters; it's the culmination of these details that creates a memorable experience."
